Stevens Institute of Technology
U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2015

The impact of Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall in October 2012, cannot be overstated. With over $65 billion dollars in damage, 158 people killed in the U.S. and almost 350,000 homes damaged or destroyed in New Jersey alone, Hurricane Sandy has redefined what it means to live along the shore today.

The SURE HOUSE prototype, Stevens Institute of Technology's third consecutive entry in the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition, represents a new direction in coastal housing design and construction. Combining the best of academic and on-the-ground research in storm-resilient buildings, the SURE HOUSE will provide a safe, secure and comfortable home for a typical family of four.
